It's amazing that what took the better part of two days to sand could be sort of ruined in less than an hour with a bad staining job. This sanding/staining business is harder than I would have imagined. Luckily, it's an end table that's mostly concealed by couches, magazines, and a lamp.
Still, it's hard to be an impatient perfectionist.

The whole process IS really difficult. My mom helped me through it when I was sanding/staining my bedroom dressers and I kept thinking that we were doing it the hard way or something. I think sanding and painting might be easier? All the people on the renovation shows make it seem so easy to stain. But I think they do crappy jobs a lot of the time.
